Reporting Protected Sick Leave in TRS: New Time Entry Codes Now Available

Sent to the TRS-Update mailing list on Jan. 10, 2025

Effective immediately, eligible employees are now able to enter Protected Sick Leave in TRS using the newly created Sick Protected (Non FML) time entry code. When Protected Sick Leave is selected in TRS, a warning provides the employee with information on the uses and application of Protected Sick Leave (see below):

Time Code Grouping by Hour Type

TRS Time Code drop downs have been enhanced to group the different Sick, Vacation and LWOP options together to allow for better visibility and use (see below):

Before: Grouped by FMLA

After: Grouped by Hour Type

organized by FMLA pay by hour type

Rehired Retirees

Rehired retirees may begin to see sick leave accruals in UCPath. These accruals are incorrect, and retirees should not be allowed to report use of these hours. TRS will not be allowing Rehired Retires to report use of Protected Sick leave. UC Systemwide HR policy is continuing to review policy implications to rehired retirees, and if anything changes, the university will be issuing further policy directives for this population.
