Central Cashiering Office in Aldrich Hall Going Cashless on July 1
Sent to campus employees and all UCI students on June 20, 2024
Dear UCI Community,
Starting on July 1, 2024, Financial Services Central Cashiering will stop accepting in-person payments at the windows in Aldrich Hall and will no longer accept cash deposits of any kind. With this change, the campus community should be aware of the following:
- Student payments (no cash) will continue to be accepted online, through the mail, and in the drop box located outside of the Central Cashiering Office at Aldrich Hall.
- Central Cashiering will no longer take payments at the windows in Aldrich Hall. There will be a window available for those needing to pick up a check.
- For campus employees, if your campus department currently accepts cash payments for deposit through the Central Cashiering Office, you will no longer be able to do so effective July 1. Campus offices have been notified of this change.
- Only campus units that deposit cash through Central Cashiering will be impacted. Cash may still be used for payment on campus at locations where it is accepted.
Why is Central Cashiering going cashless?
To help ensure student safety and reduce transaction costs. We have become increasingly concerned regarding the safety of students arriving at our office with thousands of dollars in cash to pay their tuition and fees. By no longer accepting cash payments, costs for armored car services as well as other cash dependent expenses can be reduced, if not eliminated.
What is the plan for students who show up on campus with cash?
Students may purchase money orders at the Albertsons at University Town Center across from campus at a low cost. In addition, we have contacted two credit unions who have provided us with the documentation requirements for students (international and domestic) wishing to open a bank account. This information is available on our website.
What do campus departments need to do?
- If you are a department that currently accepts cash payments for deposit through the Central Cashiering Office, please note we will no longer accept cash in your deposits. If you would like information regarding electronic payments, please contact cashiers@uci.edu and we will be glad to assist you.
- The Financial Services website has been updated with payment links for miscellaneous charges currently paid at the window.
- Cashier's checks, money orders, and bank checks are still accepted through the drop box and through the mail.
- COD deposits will be accepted through the drop box.
Thank you for your partnership in providing better service to our students and community.
Sincerely,
