Advisory: Entering PFCB Time on Biweekly Timesheets for the Pay Period Ending Jan. 7

Sent to TRS-Update and CPO maiiling lists on Dec. 12, 2022

As communicated by Vice Chancellor and Chief Human Resources Officer Ramona Agrela, UC’s Pay for Family Care and Bonding (PFCB) program is expanding. In 2023, the income replacement offered by UC’s PFCB program will increase from 70% to 100% of eligible earnings for up to eight workweeks per calendar year. To prepare for this change, UCI will need to update the Time Reporting System (TRS) during the first week of January 2023.

In order to avoid any negative impacts to employee timesheets or pay, campus organizations should advise biweekly employees planning to use Pay for Family Care and Bonding (PFCB) time during pay period 12/25/2022 – 01/07/2023 to not enter their PFCB time until on or after Jan. 4, 2023.

This TRS functionality change will not affect employees who are paid monthly, therefore no special action is required on their part.

Department Time Administrator (DTA) Actions

Prior to approving biweekly timesheets for pay period 12/25/2022-01/07/2023, DTAs should ensure that that any PFCB time entered by employees is only reflected as earn code PFN for all hours reported.
