The University of California posted new Meal and Incidental Expenses (M&IE) and Business and Entertainment Meal Rates for 2016. These rates are set by UC travel and entertainment policies G-28 and BUS-79.
New Meal and Incidental Expenses (M&IE) Rate
The University of California increased the Meal and Incidental Expenses (M&IE) rate effective March 1. The new maximum is now $74. This cap is the maximum amount that UCI travelers can claim daily for meals and incidentals like tips during short-term business travel in the continental United States. See the new travel website for details.
Travelers should only claim the actual reasonable costs incurred. Do not treat the M&IE rate as a per diem and claim the whole amount every day. Receipts should be obtained for all meals and may be required if the traveler routinely claims the full M&IE amount rather than the actual costs incurred.
New Maximum Rates for Business and Entertainment Meals
The University of California also increased the maximum amount per person that can be reimbursed for business meetings and entertainment occasions this month. The maximum amount varies depending on the meal. See the new travel website for the updated maximums.
