Sent to the UCI campus on Aug. 21, 2015
I’m pleased to report that UCI has successfully closed the 2014-15 fiscal year. Because it was our first time closing with the new Kuali Financial System, we anticipated challenges. Fortunately, most campus units closed the fiscal year with no major difficulties. Thank you to everyone across campus who helped make the 2014-15 Fiscal Year-End Close successful.
The implementation of KFS has been a major endeavor. We launched a year ago with more software modules than any other university in the history of the KFS project. That we finished the fiscal year in such good shape is largely due to the successful collaboration of UCI’s financial community and the core KFS team, which includes members from Accounting and Fiscal Services, the Office of Information Technology, the Budget Office, and Purchasing and Risk Services along with our numerous subject matter experts from across the campus.
Transitioning to a new system has been a challenge for everyone on campus. We have appreciated your patience and cooperation during the past year and particularly during the busy last few months. We met with hundreds of KFS users at 10 open forums and four fiscal close workshops during that time, and the input we received was invaluable. We will continue to make every effort to assist units that have encountered challenges aligning business processes with KFS. Our goal is to continuously improve the user experience, and this new fiscal year will bring new functionality and enhancements that we are sure will please UCI’s community of financial managers.
Thank you to everyone who helped close the 2014-15 fiscal year. Your hard work and diligence managing and protecting UCI’s financial resources -- even when challenged to adapt to a new financial system -- is of immeasurable value.
